Dancing with Ghosts & Performing Presence // A 2 part series with Suniti Dernovsek, Dekum Street Theater's Artist in Residence
When I dance, I dance with socks on pine floors, auntie’s thick thighs and mom’s feet, walls from 1912, 13,000 killed in Gaza, hands that remember growing in fluid now moving in connection to my spine, winter body, swollen rivers, seasons change as I change.
In moments of being danced, who is dancing me?
In this series we bring forward what our bodies already know. A dance with what is seen and unseen. Together we investigate movement that arises from being in a process of relating. Dance with ancestors, place, culture and your bodies remembering. Experience aliveness as a practice of connection and love.
In part 2, Performing Presence, we engage and enliven the theater. Play with witnessing and being witnessed. Experiment with being danced and being seen.
