Orientation & Movement. Embark on a transformative exploration of dance through the lens of orientation and adaptation with Meshi Chavez in this one-time class. We enter the dance floor already oriented, experiencing our bodies through the prism of these orientations. They shape our interactions, perceptions, and habits. In this class, participants will delve into the dynamic interplay between orientation and movement. Through engaging exercises and improvisational prompts, we'll uncover how our orientations influence our dance practice and daily lives. By tuning into our existing orientations, we'll discover the potential for subtle shifts and new perspectives. Through playful exploration and experimentation, we'll unlock fresh pathways of movement, expression, and embodiment. Join Meshi as we journey beyond the surface, exploring the transformative possibilities waiting within the spaces between orientations.
LINDA AUSTIN 4/12/24
Creating a dance for the future. Creating a dance to be forgotten. This class offers a chance to experience and experiment with aspects of my current process in making a piece titled In preparation for disappearances to come. We consider how traces of our living, our actions, and our performing linger into the future even as we ourselves may be forgotten quickly and completely. Movement scores based on transmission and influence will be set in motion to be shaped and refined with the help of the Tuning Score as developed by Lisa Nelson. All levels welcome.
SAMUEL HOBBS 4/19/24
Visceral MovementTheory™ — Flow
Working with our internal biomechanics, participants hone their sense ofphysical continuity within their bodies as a driving force in momentum, dynamicsuspension, and the application of subtle power. Through guided and intuitivemovements, partnering, and phrase work, dancers should expect floorwork, mid tohigh-level movement, and working with partners of varied genders and sizes.

Grounding our Hearts. Bharatanatyam is a rich, rigorous, and universally accessible dance form. At the same time Colonialism, Casteism and Classism have influenced its technique, creative processes, and history. In this session, we will begin with the technical building blocks - rhythmic footwork, hand and facial gestures, and emotive story-telling tools. As we embody the dance form, we will then delve into some of its history. The goal of this class is to tap into the wisdom of our dancing bodies and empathetically allow for the emergence of expansive and equitable movement expressions.
